David A. Kravitz, PhD

David A. Kravitz is Professor of management in the School of Business at George Mason University. He teaches courses on organizational behavior and diversity in organizations.

His previous academic appointments have been at Rice University, Florida International University and the University of Kentucky. He spent a year as a Senior Fulbright Professor at the University of Freiburg in Germany and has worked for a consulting firm.

Kravitz has given over sixty presentations at national and international conferences. He has published over fifty-five monographs, chapters, and refereed journal articles in a variety of outlets, including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. He serves on the editorial boards of Journal of Applied Psychology, Group & Organization Management, and Journal of Business and Psychology. He was the 2010-2011 Chair of the Gender and Diversity in Organizations Division of the Academy of Management and has received both the career research award and the career service award from that Division.

Kravitz’s current research focus is on diversity management, with special interests in learning what works and in bridging the gap between research and practice. He has also published works in several other areas, including beliefs about and reactions to affirmative action programs, procedural justice, bargaining and context effects in performance appraisals. He provides occasional executive briefings on diversity issues, especially the “business case” and how to create inclusive cultures.

Kravitz has a BA from Carleton College, an MA and a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana, and postdoctoral training at Bowling Green State University.
